In the Studio With Peter Pickering
In the studio, soul meets storytelling. As songwriter, producer and creative director of Sessions on the Green®, Peter creates music, voices and characters shaped by memory, imagination and lived experience — each carrying something of the person who imagined them.
The result is music with cinematic depth, emotional detail and, occasionally, a little late-night magic.
The Quiet Craft
At the heart of Sessions on the Green® is a simple idea: the tools may change, but the responsibility for what we create remains ours.
Songs begin with an idea, an observation, a memory, a phrase or sometimes simply a feeling. From there, we write, experiment, arrange, reject, reshape and refine until the music becomes what we imagined.
Some releases are built around imagined recording characters and musical identities. Others are instrumental, collaborative or performed under our own names. Each gives us a different voice through which to tell a story.
We use digital production and contemporary creative technologies according to what the work requires. They expand what we are able to create, but they don't decide what is worth creating.
Every decision ultimately comes back to the same question: Does it make us feel something?

The Heart Behind the Sound
We make music because music has always mattered to us.
It marks places.
It brings people back.
It says things we sometimes struggle to say ourselves.
A song can become attached to a person, a room, a journey, a particular night — and years later, a few notes can take you straight back there.
That is the connection we look for when we create.
Not whether something is fashionable.
Not whether it fits neatly into a category.
But whether somewhere, someone hears it and thinks:
I know that feeling.
Sessions on the Green® is home to many voices, characters and musical worlds, but behind them is the same human impulse: to tell stories, explore emotions and make something worth returning to.
Sometimes that means tenderness.
Sometimes melancholy.
Sometimes joy, humour, desire or simply a beautiful sound that makes the world disappear for four minutes.
We don't expect every song to reach everyone.
But when one reaches you, we hope it stays.

Founding the Studio
Sessions on the Green® began as a personal studio project and gradually became something much larger: a home for songwriting, music production, visual storytelling and an expanding catalogue of recordings.
What began with individual songs developed into albums, instrumental works and a growing cast of musical identities, each created to inhabit a particular sound, mood or story.
Today the music reaches listeners around the world through streaming, video, digital downloads and physical releases.
Peter Pickering
Peter Pickering writes, produces and provides the creative direction for Sessions on the Green®.
His background spans photography, writing, visual composition, music and decades of creative experimentation. That experience shapes not only the songs, but the worlds around them — the imagery, characters, stories and atmosphere through which the music is presented.
Sessions on the Green is not built around a single genre or performer. It is a studio through which Peter and the team can explore many different musical ideas and identities.
The Voices of Sessions on the Green
Some songs call for intimacy. Others need swagger, humour, vulnerability, elegance or a voice that seems to belong somewhere after midnight.
Rather than asking one performer to inhabit all of those worlds, Sessions on the Green® has developed a growing collection of imagined recording characters and musical identities, each created around a particular voice, personality and musical landscape.
Carmen Solé inhabits one of those worlds. Others inhabit very different ones.
The characters may be imagined. The ideas, choices, stories and creative work behind them are not.
